Lately I've been reading about "Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste" applied
to German heavy tanks, particularly on the Eastern front.

I am curious as to what precisely this "paste" was supposed to
accomplish. I surmise that it was an "anti-land mine" addition, though
I'm not sure if the Russians used anti-tank or anti-personnel magnetic
mines.

Was this paste found to be effective?

Thanx.

It was against magnetic mines that someone with no self preservation
instinct tried to attach to the tank.
